Zhu Zhiming, MD, PhD, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Metabolism Director of Center for Hypertension and Metabolic Diseases, Department of Hypertension and Endocrinology, Daping Hospital, Third Military Medical University, Chongqing Institute of Hypertension, 400042 Chongqing. Dr. Zhu received his medical degree in 1985 and Master of Science in cardiology from the Third Military Medical University, Chongqing in 1988 and obtained his MD (PhD eqv) from Muenster University, Germany in 1993. He received postdoctoral training and as a research associate at Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1994-1997. During 2002, he was a visiting professor at the School of Medicine, Indiana University®CPurdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Currently, he is director and professor of cardiovascular medicine and metabolism in the Center for Hypertension and Metabolic Diseases, Department of Hypertension and Endocrinology, Daping Hospital, Third Military Medical University, Chongqing Institute of Hypertension. Dr. Zhu°Įs research interests focus on two major interrelated areas: 1) mechanisms of hypertension and metabolic syndrome by combining laboratory efforts with clinical investigation utilizing molecular, genetic, and physiological approaches. Of special interest is the role of transient receptor potential (TRP) channels in the pathogenesis of hypertension and obesity. 2) Managements of hypertension and cardiometabolic diseases through drug therapy and lifestyle modification. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers mostly in prestigious international journals such as Cell Metabolism, Circ Res, Arterio Thromb Vasc Biol, Hypertension, J Hypertens, JCMM, Metabolism, Am J Hypertens, et al. He is a Fellow of American Heart Association (Council on High Blood Pressure Research), member of International Society of Hypertension, Fellow of Chinese Hypertension League. He was awarded as Changjiang Scholar and National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholar of China. He serves on the Editorial Board of Clin Exp Physiol Pharmaco, Pflugers Archiv-Eur J Physiol and on more than ten editorial boards of Chinese Journals, such as Chin J Cardiology, Chin J Hypertension (associate editor), Chin J Endo & Metabo, Chin J Diabetes.
